TPO/DPO locking plates
The TPO plate is used to correct hip dysplasia using the triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO) technique.
This procedure involves surgically correcting the existing hip joint to improve the contact between the femoral head and the acetabulum. Three cuts are made in the pelvic bones around the acetabulum so that a free bone fragment (the ilium near the acetabulum) can be rotated to a position that allows optimal placement of the femoral head in the socket. The bone segments are stabilized in their new position using a screw and a specialized plate. Bone healing takes approximately 4–6 weeks. TPO is effective only in dogs with hip joint laxity, and who do not yet show secondary bone remodeling or degenerative changes.
Recently, a technique involving only two pelvic cuts—called double pelvic osteotomy—has also been developed.
